Palestinian Customs Police Officers Receive Training in India

As part of the ongoing efforts of the Government of India to assist Palestine in capacity building, strengthening of state institution, servicesand training of cadres, a team of twenty-five Palestinian Customs Police Officers received a specialized training course on Custom Matters.

The training course organized at the National Academy of Customs Excise and Narcotics, Faridabad was held from 25.7.2016- 5.8.2016 and covered topics relating to roles and responsibilities of customs examination, inspection methods, risk based selection for examination of cargo, classification and types of narcotics, identification and testing of drugs, global and regional trends in drug trafficking, intelligence collection, and investigation techniques.

As part of the training, the officers visited the Inland Container Depot (ICD) atTughlakhabad where all activities related to clearance of goods for home consumption, warehousing, re-export for onward transit and outright export transshipment take place.In addition to visiting the Amritsar border for practical exposure of inter-border movement of cargo, conveyance and passengers, the trainees also had the opportunity to visit and learn the techniques and procedures followed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport New Delhi.

The team of Palestinian officers headed by Major MuayadSalehhighly valued the intensified training and expertise shared by the Indian trainers, and described the training as a unique opportunity to get acquainted with India’s experience in such fields. Expressing sinceregratitude and respect for the professionalism of the Indian trainers and experts at the National Academy of Customs Excise and Narcotics, Maj. Saleh said that the training received has enriched their experience, would contribute to the Palestinian Customs Police efforts to secure the Palestinian market, and immensely serve in maintaining economic stability in Palestine.

 Apart from the training aspect of the visit, the Palestinian visiting officers had the opportunity to visit historical and touristic sites, including one of the Seven Wonders of the WorldTajMahal.

It is worth noting that under the Government of India’s Technical and Economic Cooperation Program (ITEC), more than eight hundred Palestinians have received their training in various fields. ITEC training courses are a genuine opportunity to share and exchange expertise and knowledge.  The entire cost of training, including the return international air fare, tuition fees, accommodation, emergency medical treatment, stipend, book allowances and study tour are all borne by the Government of India.
