Presidential Award of Certificates of Honours to Distinguished Scholars
Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, Government of India has invited nominations/recommendations for Presidential Award of Certificates of Honours to distinguished scholars of Sanskrit, Pali, Prakrit, Arabic, Persian, Classical Oriya, Classical Kannada, Classical Telugu, Classical Malayalam and Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman.
2. The Scheme for the Award of the Certificates of Honours was introduced in the year 1958 to honour the scholars of Sanskrit, Arabic and Persian languages. The scheme was extended to cover Pali/Prakrit Classical Oriya, Classical Kannada, Classical Telugu and Classical Malayalam from the year 2016.
3. Under this Scheme, a Certificate of Honour, a shawl and a onetime cash award of Rs. Five lakh each is awarded to Scholars of eminence over 60 years of age with outstanding contribution in the field of each of these languages. In addition to this, the scheme also provides a Certificate of Honour, a shawl and Rs. One lakh each for Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman for young scholars between 30-45 years of age.
4. The scheme also provides for One International Award of Certificate of Honour to a Non-resident India or person on non-Indian origin with outstanding contribution in the field of Sanskrit and Two International Awards (one each for person of Indian and Non-Indian Origin) in each of the languages of Classical Oriya, Classical Kannada, Classical Telugu and Classical Malayalam.
5. Distinguished scholars in the languages as mentioned above may kindly submit their nominations as per enclosed proforma to this Mission by 15th April for onward transmission to Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, Government of India for their final consideration.
