Press Release: India Business Day Held in Jericho to Strengthen India– Palestine Economic Cooperation

The Representative Office of India in Palestine, in collaboration with the Jericho Chamber of Commerce and Industry, organised India Business Day in Jericho on 11 February. The event brought together Palestinian and Indian stakeholders to explore practical opportunities for trade and economic cooperation.

The event was inaugurated by H.E. Dr. Hussein Hamayel, Governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley; Mr. Taysir Al Humaidi, Head of the Jericho Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Mr. Abdul Karim Sidr, Mayor of Jericho; and Ms. Mahima Sikand, Representative of India to Palestine, alongside representatives from the public and private sectors and the local business community.

Addressing the gathering, H.E. Dr. Hussein Hamayel noted that the Palestinian market presented promising opportunities for Indian companies to expand their presence and increase sales in the region, particularly in view of the growing demand for cost-effective solutions in sectors such as digital technology, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and textiles. Mr. Taysir Al Humaidi highlighted that the event would open new horizons for trade and investment exchange, contribute to supporting the private sector and small and medium enterprises, and strengthen local economic development. Ms. Mahima Sikand underscored the strengths of the Indian economy and the opportunities it offers to Palestinian companies seeking to diversify supply sources and build long-term, reliable partnerships.

The opening session of the event also included remarks by Dr. Waiel Awwad, Secretary General of the newly launched India–Arab Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, who provided a comprehensive overview of opportunities to enhance commercial partnerships between India and Palestine.

The programme featured sector-focused sessions covering IT and digital services, agriculture and agri-technologies, pharmaceuticals and healthcare equipment, and textiles. With active participation from Indian and Palestinian experts and institutions, including the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce andIndustry (FICCI), the Coffee Board of India, the Ministry of Textiles, and the Palestinian Ministries of Agriculture and Tourism, participants heard perspectives from a wide range of stakeholders.

Discussions highlighted India’s strengths in delivering reliable, cost-effective, and scalable solutions suited to emerging markets, and explored opportunities for long-term partnerships between Indian companies and Palestinian businesses.The event also included an exhibition showcasing Indian products and providing information on Indian offerings relevant to the Palestinian market.

India Business Day builds on the growing economic engagement between India and Palestine and reflects India’s continued commitment to supporting people- centric development and sustainable economic growth. The Representative Office of India reaffirmed its readiness to continue facilitating dialogue between the two business communities and supporting initiatives that translate partnerships into tangible economic outcomes.

ممثلية الهند في فلسطين تنظم اليوم التجاري الهندي في أريحا لتعزيز التعاون الاقتصادي بين الهند وفلسطين

نظم مكتب ممثلية جمهورية الهند في فلسطين، بالتعاون مع غرفة تجارة وصناعة أريحا والأغوار، فعالية اليوم التجاري الهندي في مدينة أريحا بتاريخ 11 شباط 2026، حيث جمعت الفعالية ممثلين عن الجهات الفلسطينية والهندية لاستكشاف فرص عملية للتعاون التجاري والاقتصادي.

وقد افتتح الفعالية كل من عطوفة د.حسين حمايل، محافظ أريحا والأغوار؛ وسعادة السيد تيسير الحميدي، رئيس غرفة تجارة وصناعة أريحا والأغوار؛ وسعادة السيد عبد الكريم سدر، رئيس بلدية أريحا؛ وسعادة السيدة ماهيما سيكاند، ممثلة جمهورية الهند لدى دولة فلسطين، وذلك بحضور ممثلين عن القطاعين العام والخاص، إلى جانب مجتمع الأعمال المحلي.

وفي كلمته خلال الفعالية، أشار عطوفة د.حسين حمايل إلى أن السوق الفلسطيني يتيح فرصاً واعدة للشركات الهندية لتوسيع حضورها وزيادة حجم مبيعاتها في المنطقة، لا سيما في ظل الطلب المتزايد على الحلول ذات الكفاءة من حيث التكلفة في قطاعات التكنولوجيا الرقمية، والزراعة، والصناعات الدوائية، والمنسوجات.

كما أكد السيد تيسير الحميدي أن تنظيم هذه الفعالية من شأنه أن يفتح آفاقاً جديدة لتبادل التجارة والاستثمار، ويسهم في دعم القطاع الخاص والشركات الصغيرة والمتوسطة، وتعزيز التنمية الاقتصادية المحلية.

ومن جانبها، أكدت سعادة السيدة ماهيما سيكاند على متانة الاقتصاد الهندي والفرص التي يوفرها للشركات الفلسطينية الراغبة في تنويع مصادر التوريد وبناء شراكات طويلة الأمد تقوم على الموثوقية والاستدامة.

كما تضمنت الجلسة الافتتاحية مداخلة للدكتور وائل عوّاد، الأمين العام لغرفة التجارة والصناعة والزراعة العربية الهندية، والذي استعرض بشكل شامل فرص تعزيز الشراكات التجارية بين الهند وفلسطين.

وتضمن برنامج الفعالية جلسات قطاعية ركزت على تكنولوجيا المعلومات والخدمات الرقمية، والزراعة والتكنولوجيا الزراعية، والصناعات الدوائية والمعدات الطبية، إضافة إلى قطاع المنسوجات.
